Four years – The Parents Voice Shawville

Four years already. It’s been an exciting ride. We love meeting people who’ve already heard of us and absolutely are thrilled when people seek us out. The word is getting out about us. Four years ago a few parents sat down with Comité 0-5 ans and started the Parents’ Voice.
We started as a group of parents just looking to find activities, programs, workshops and events closer to home. Four years later, we are happy to say we’ve accomplished a great deal. We love it each time we make contact with a new family, either at a new program, an event, playgroup or a workshop. It makes everything worthwhile.
Not long after becoming Parents’ Voice, we started writing our article with THE EQUITY in an effort to keep families up to date about what is going on in our town. Thank you to THE EQUITY for their continued support. We enjoy writing about issues that others may be experiencing as well topics that may be of interest to their readers.

We really couldn’t have accomplished as much as we have without the help of many organizations here in town as well as the municipalities surrounding us.
The municipality of Shawville has been and continues to be a fantastic support and partner for many of our programs and events and we can’t express how much we appreciate it. Bristol has also been a great partner for us in funding some of our programs.
We love the added programs we get to do in partnership with the library thanks to the joint funding from the municipalities of Shawville and Clarendon.
In addition to the support of the municipalities, local organizations have kindly donated the use of their space to us so that we can keep costs of programs low or non-existent to our parents and families.
Thank you to The Lions Club Shawville, The Shawville RA and La Maison des Jeunes Shawville, The New Hope Fellowship Church and The Bethel Pentecostal Church. We are also very appreciative of the businesses that have donated funds, supplies or anything else for any of our events, programs or workshops.
The Comité 0-5 ans has also been great to set aside funds for us in the budget as well as to partner up with us to put on a fantastic workshop last month on health services in our area. It really drives home the fact that our community does want to help keep families close to home and satisfied with their way of life here in the Pontiac. A huge thank you to all those individuals and organizations that help us out in any way.
In addition to the programs we’ve run in years past, Shawville Shenanigans, Park Days, Story Time, LEGO Club, YOGA and Creative Movements for Moms and Tots, this year we were able to add a few new programs and events as well. We were proud to offer a Gross Motor Program, Shenanigans with Erin which highlights a school readiness factor, Yoga in the park, a wonderful Park Party, hosted a Second Annual School Supply Drive, had our Fourth Annual Christmas Party, and hosted a Discover Health Services for Children in our area, Workshop. We are starting a new music program next month and organizing a school readiness workshop in the near future and simply cannot wait. You can also look for information about an upcoming show here in town with Junkyard Symphony. Quite a busy and successful year.
We are always accepting new members. The Parents’ Voice strives to organize and plan events, programs and workshops that are of interest to all parents in our areas, we want to hear your voice. We are happy to hear your feedback, please check us out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/theparentsvoiceshawville/ or email us @ parentsvoiceshawville@hotmail.com.
Thanks again to all of you who continue to show us your support. We are excited to embark on yet another year of planning children’s activities and programs for our area.
