OTTER LAKE Oct. 22, 2017
A salon in Otter Lake reopened for service after six weeks of renovations, and now packs a few new tricks.
The Cutting Edge held a ribbon cutting ceremony Sunday afternoon, showing off the new digs and amenities.
“It’s just given me more space,” said owner Nicole Jeaurond. “I can offer new services, like massage therapy.”
The new work means the salon now measures in at 24 sq. ft. and features a ten-foot ceiling.
Certainly, she has more space and is excited to show it off. When asked how much bigger it feels, Jeaurond laughed, looked around and suggested twice, maybe three times as big – and she’s not wasting it.
Starting massage therapy as a new service, Jeaurond is excited to offer it after receiving certification in 2015. She now has a separate room and full massage table onsite to offer the services, while maintaining the majority of space for haircutting.
Jeaurond was proud to share that all the renovation work was done through local businesses, mostly from the Otter Lake area.
“The majority of them were my clients,” she said with a laugh.
It was one of those clients who suggested she redo her floor with radiant heating, a significant improvement over the previous situation.
“The old shop was on a slab of cold cement,” said Jeaurond. “Our plumber suggested to go with radiant heat and we love it. It makes all the air warmer all-around.”
Besides the floor, she was also excited to show off the front desk and various fixtures in the salon because they were made with repurposed wood, from her own property and wood that had been in her father’s barn.
“This is my first everything new,” said Jeaurond. “I’ve never had new.”
