A free lunch of hot dogs and Pogos was offered, with the food organized, prepared and handed out by councillor Denzil Yach, plus his helpers. The Shawville Winter Carnival took over the arena on Saturday, welcoming families for a free hot dog lunch, lots of skating, and sleigh rides. Some kids made their own fun, including Sawyer Stewart, who commandeered a snow pile for a tobogganing hill.
Traditionally held at the outdoor rink, the community day was brought indoors to the Shawville arena when the forecast wasn’t playing out too well. The previous day’s rain, however, made for some slick conditions on the tobogganing spot, adding some extra fun to Ryder Lemay’s efforts.

The arena saw mostly little ones with a parent or two to give them a hand, working hard on their ability to skate without some help. This includes Jameson Corrigan, who despite skating only a handful of times beforehand, was eager to head out onto the ice and have some fun.

SHAWVILLE Feb. 24, 2018
An annual event aimed at getting kids and families out to break the winter blues returned on Saturday, adjusting for a change in location when the weather threatened to disrupt the fun.
The Shawville Winter Carnival returned once again, this time taking over the Shawville Arena for a few hours as town councillors and municipal staff served up a free barbeque lunch for attendees and organized other fun activities.

Traditionally held at the outdoor rink in town, foreboding forecasts brought the fun to the arena, where lunch and skating could be enjoyed without the chance of rain disrupting the activities.
Everyone of the volunteers spoken to pointed to councillor Denzil Yach as the man behind it all, as he was the one in charge of food.
