The Shawville Farmers’ Market celebrated the winter holidays early this year, changing over to a Christmas in July theme on Saturday. Vendors were encouraged to decorate their stalls with Christmas lights, and some broke out the seasonal knick-knacks to coincide with the theme.

Christmas came early to the Shawville Farmers’ Market, though many would have to call it a Florida winter with the lack of wintery white surrounding the shopping experience.
In an effort to boost awareness and beat the heat, the weekly market decided to celebrate Christmas in July on Saturday, complete with decorations and more vendors.
While some vendors hung strings of lights, others brightened the scenery with reds and greens via their plants. As well, a few busted out the Christmas crafts to coincide with the theme, displaying a selection of knick-knacks, bows and other décor for homes.

Wendy Crawford, one of the vendors, said that the theme was great for bringing more vendors to the market, as well as drawing in guests to the Shawville Lions’ Country Jamboree. She also said the Christmas theme was something new to their vendor gathering.
While only a few vendors appeared to take part in the theme, there was certainly more selection for shoppers in advance of the Christmas season. Everything from jewellery to homemade slime, plus glasswork, garden ornaments, knitting and paintings were available.
Unfortunately, the big man in red wasn’t out at the market on Saturday, though Crawford had good reason for not inviting him out.
“We didn’t do Santa Claus because I didn’t think it was fair to bring him out in this heat,” she said, with a laugh.
The Shawville Farmers’ Market runs out of the poultry building on the Shawville Fairgrounds every Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. More vendors are always encouraged to join the market, while it continues throughout the season.
