Dear Editor,
I want to challenge your readers that write and the writers who read to enter the writing competition at Shawville Fair this Labour Day weekend.
It has many positive things going for it. One would be that it is a local competition for local writers. This is a big deal. Another would be that it has the best entry-fee-to-prize-money ratio of any contest that I have come across. Based on past year’s entries, your chances of winning a class is around one in five. The third and a very compelling incentive is the $200 Best In Show award, which again this year is generously sponsored by the West Quebec Literacy Council. As always there are no age or language divisions – everyone is treated as equals. Also, entrants’ names are hidden from the judge to keep the process as impartial as possible.
The full details can be found on the Shawville Fair’s website. Look for section 3B in the Homecrafts fairbook. As always you can also reach out to me through Facebook messenger, I can be texted at 819-650-2251 or via email at mccann.thomas.david@gmail.com.
Do you dare to accept my challenge?
Thank you.
Tom McCann, Clarendon
