This is a copy of a letter forwarded to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and Pontiac M. P. Will Amos
Dear Sirs,
It is with horror that I read that the Canadian Liberal Government is now promoting Nuclear Energy as Clean and Nice — according to Jim Carr, Minister of Natural Resources. This is to be launched in May 2018. The International Energy Agency projects that nuclear energy generation needs to double by 2040 to meet global clean energy needs. It is backed by Canada, Japan, USA, Argentina, Poland, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. How can all those countries ignore the horrendous news that came from Japan? When did nuclear become clean? Have none of those countries heard of the pollution that comes from mining uranium and the impossibility of locating a safe disposal site for radioactive waste? Nuclear energy is not clean.

At home in the Pontiac, I would like you to record that I am entirely opposed to a nuclear waste disposal site at Chalk River. The present waste should be stored below ground in engineered caverns in stable rock far away from the Ottawa River. It should not include nuclear waste from other facilities which involve transportation on public roads. Each facility should be responsible for its own waste disposal.
I am upset that the Federal Government has given the management of nuclear facilities to a private consortium including SNC-Lavalin Ground Inc. — which is being sued for fraud, bribery and corruption – Fluor Corp and US-CH2MHill Inc.
There has been so many new initiatives to promote environmentally safer methods of producing energy. Let the government support those projects and let the nuclear projects die before they kill us all.
