Road Lines on Route 148

An Open Letter to MRC Pontiac Warden Jane Toller

The Equity

Dear Warden Toller,
I am writing this letter in the hope that you, with the assistance and strong backing of the MRC council, can help citizens with the fact that the Quebec Minister of Transport plays hide and seek with the paint needed to mark the highway lines on Route 148.

It is bewildering to see some sections of the highway painted making lines clearly visible, and certain other sections not painted. At night drivers use the lines to track through the curves and corners of the highway, and this is a very important safety consideration, especially for seniors.

Having recently used the highway we noticed that the curve at the intersection of Bristol Mine Road and Route 148 is not freshly painted. Given that that section of the road can be treacherous, one would have thought that keeping the lines clearly visible would be a top priority.

However, it seems that the road lines are painted – by section – according to some pre-established schedule, not based on real conditions. The policy seems to be a haphazard application of road safety sense.

This is to request that the MRC council strongly lobby the Quebec Ministry of Transportation responsible for this lack of attention to the condition of lines on the highway, and that you seek immediate rectification of a failed policy. Public security demands it.

Carl Hager, Gatineau
