A significant chunk of Chemin Alary in the Municipality of Pontiac was inundated with water on Oct. 30. Firefighters on scene had the roadway blocked off and said cars couldn’t pass because the water was too deep and fast-moving.

The Municipality of Pontiac has been hit by flooding yet again after being severely impacted this past spring.
With more than 100 mm of rain falling between Saturday afternoon and Monday afternoon, several roadways were closed for safety precautions.

Those roads include: 5th Concession at ch. Kilroy; Pères Dominicains; ch. de la Montagne; ch. Mulligan; ch. Mohr; ch. Alary; ch. Eardley-Masham; ch. Gold Mine North.
A state of emergency was declared in La Pêche as a result of extensive damage to roadways.
Earlier on Monday morning, there was concern at the Municipality of Pontiac that the waters would crest over Hwy. 148 but the rains subsided and, as of press time, the roadway was still open.
According to Municipality of Pontiac spokesman Dominic Labrie, the situation on Hwy. 148 was “critical” in the morning.
In fact, a driveway just off of Hwy. 148 at the four lanes in Luskville had been completely washed out. A nearly 12 foot-wide and six foot-deep trench had been washed away by the rushing water.
Ch. Alary also suffered flood-related damage. In the early afternoon a firetruck had blocked off the roadway. Firefighters said it wasn’t safe for vehicles to pass because the water was too deep and fast-moving.
Labrie said that this round of flooding was different from the springtime because this one was mostly the result of rainfall whereas the spring floods came from higher river levels.
The Ministry of Transport of Quebec (MTQ) was in the municipality keeping an eye on the situation and had made the call to close ch. Eardley-Masham for an “indefinite period.”
Residents who use ch. Eardley-Masham are advised to use the detour on ch. Lac-des-Loups.
