We had a perfect wintery evening for the Quyon Pastoral Charge’s Christmas House Tour last Mon., Dec. 1. We were welcomed into the homes of Brittany McKenny & Kris Belsher, Jenna & Stephen Rusenstrom, Eddie & Dianne McCann, and Parker Station, which is the cottage of Paul & Sandra Nugent. Each place was so festive, beautifully decorated, cozy and unique. Many thanks to all of the homeowners for the work and effort they put into decorating and preparing for this tour, it is greatly appreciated. Door prizes were won by Kathy Peck, Carol Kavanagh, Colleen Wright-Mohr, and Kaylee Hamilton. The Wine Advent Calendar was won by Sally Cavan. Snacks and treats were served throughout the evening in the basement at Quyon United, where all enjoyed a lovely Christmas visit with neighbours and friends. We are so thankful to all who supported this fundraiser and made it a terrific success yet again.

The festive events continued into the weekend, as the Quyon Lions Club hosted their annual Parade of Lights on Saturday evening. There was such joy and excitement in the air, as the streets were lined with families waving to all of the brightly lit parade floats and entries. A big shout-out to all of the local businesses, organizations, and families who participated. It was a wonderful parade. Santa Claus was on the Lions Club float at the very end of the parade, and then he stopped at the Quyon Community Centre to greet the children and hand out treats. There was also hot chocolate and hot dogs served, courtesy of the Quyon Legion. Hats off to all involved in the organization of this event, which brings so much happiness to our town at Christmastime.

Meanwhile, over at the Egan Mill, they were also hosting a holiday event, as they held their very first Christmas tree lighting. Santa also stopped in there to meet with the children who gathered, while there was also soup and chili on the menu for young and old. It was another fantastic event at the Mill, and kudos to them for all of their hard work in organizing it.

Deepest sympathy is extended to Roy Dagenais and family on the passing of his wife, Bev, last week. Our thoughts and prayer are with all of Bev’s loved ones at this sad time.

Heartfelt condolences are also going out to the family and friends of Dorna Davis, as she passed away suddenly on Dec. 6. We are keeping Dorna’s loved ones in our thoughts as they grieve.

Birthday wishes are going out to Glen Provost on Dec. 11, to Ameila Dowe on the 14th, and to Jenna Rusenstrom on the 15th. Happy 17th birthday to my niece Danica Provost, as she celebrates on the 15th, and to my aunt Nora Schock, marking her 75th birthday on the same day. Blessings to all who are celebrating special occasions this week.

We’ve had snow and we’ve had cold, but the surest sign of winter is here: The Quyon Ferry’s last day of operation is scheduled for this Thurs., Dec. 11. Wishing the Ferry staff a great break, and many will already be counting down the days until they are back in operation again in the spring.
