I hope all of the trick-or-treaters had a wonderful Halloween last Friday, despite the cold and rainy weather.  It was great to see Quyon alive with community spirit for the big night.  The Egan Mill had a decorated area for people to stop and take photos while they handed out treats, the Quyon Legion was handing out treats, the Quyon Firehall was decorated for the little ghouls and ghosts to check out, Casse Croute du Village and Lemay Plumbing teamed up to hand out hot chocolate at the chipstand, and so much more.  Meanwhile, the Legion also held a Horror Night party featuring DJ Dave, and the Festival Fantome was being held at Gavan’s, providing entertainment options for the adults as well.  It was a fantastic night of Halloween fun for the whole community.

While Halloween is always great, it ended up being a heart-breaking weekend for Blue Jays fans.  After losing a close Game 6 on Halloween night, they took the lead in Game 7 on Saturday night, which gave many of us high hopes that our first World Series victory in 32 years was at hand.  Unfortunately, the LA Dodgers chipped away at that lead, and the Jays ended up letting it slip through their grasp, eventually losing in the 11th inning.  It was devastation after such a fun fall of watching them run this magical ride to the World Series.  I know the sting of the loss will eventually fade, and another promising season will come around soon enough, but I am just so sad.  Proud of this team that united our country and had us all cheering for such a terrific group.  We’ll get them next year.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Iona (Lasalle) Martineau, as she passed away on Oct. 30 at the age of 76.  Thoughts are with all of her loved ones at this sad time.

Birthday wishes are going out to Ainslei Rusenstrom on Nov. 6, and to Louie Provost on the 11th.  Best wishes to all who are celebrating this week.

This coming Saturday, Nov. 8, the Onslow Christmas Craft Sale will be held at the Quyon Community Centre from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  It is a great opportunity to get a start on your Christmas shopping, while also supporting local vendors and artisans, as well as supporting Onslow School.  I am looking forward to being there with my Watkins products, as they make wonderful Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers.  There will be a canteen serving up soup and chili at lunchtime, so you can come and have a bite to eat while you shop.  Hope to see many friendly faces there.

The Quyon Legion will be holding their annual Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 9.  The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. at the Cenotaph, with a light lunch following at the Legion.  Be sure to attend, as we pay our respects to the veterans who valiantly fought for our country and our freedom, and show our support for those who continue to serve today.
