This past Saturday, the back roads of Quyon were buzzing as the annual Car Rally took place. Participants were out following directions, answering trivia questions, and searching for clues, with the theme this year being Quyon’s 150th Anniversary. After all was said and done, the big winners of the day were some of my favourite people, the Sesqui Slow Pokes: Kara Young, Elizabeth Young, Caden Provost, and Rory Piper. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year, as the winners always plan the next year’s route. Hats off to Shannon Johnston-McCann, Karen and Bradley Cull, and Nicole and Brandon Belaire for putting together an amazing Rally. Special thanks to the Quyon Lions Club for stepping up to host the event and keep this beloved tradition alive in our community. They served a delicious lasagna dinner which we all enjoyed. I had a great day with my fellow “Springer’s Dingers” and I’m already looking forward to Car Rally 2026.
On Sunday, we held our annual Harvest Draw at Quyon United Church. The winner of the gorgeous blanket handmade and donated by Mary Ellen Young was Ruth Gilmour; Joanne Young won the five homemade fruit pies donated by Elizabeth Young; and the winner of the harvest basket brimming with goodies donated by members of the congregation was Angela Sauve. Many thanks to all who supported our fall fundraiser, as it was once again a great success. The support of our church family and the surrounding communities sure helps to keep our little churches thriving. Mark your calendars for Dec. 1, as the Christmas House Tour is in the planning stages right now. Stay tuned for more details coming soon.
Birthday wishes are going out to Melanie McCann-Lang and Doug Kennedy, both celebrating on Nov. 1. We also have birthday wishes going out to Dianne McCann and Shawn Schwartz on the 2nd, and to Laura Stewart, Chris MacKechnie, and my uncle Elson Schock on the 3rd. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
The Quyon Legion is hosting Halloween festivities on Friday evening, for anyone looking to celebrate on the spookiest night of the year. They are looking forward to welcoming trick-or-treaters starting at 5 p.m. on Halloween night, and then at 9 p.m. the Horror Night Party begins, with DJ Dave spinning all your favourite songs. Get out your costumes and join in the Halloween fun!
Gavan’s Hotel and Studio Cimitere will also be hosting haunting festivities, as the second Festival Fantome will be held over the next two weekends. The event will feature 22 electrifying performers, and will bring entertainment to Quyon like we’ve never seen before. For tickets and more information, visit festivalfantome.com
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween! No tricks, all treats!
