Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Elaine Nugent, as she passed away on Aug. 30. Mrs. Nugent was a lovely, sweet woman, and she will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with her daughter Carolyn and all of her loved ones.

Congratulations to Natasha Curley and Tyler Duffy on the arrival of their first child. They have an adorable wee girl named Bythe Lyn, and proud grandparents are Ray and Diana Curley. Wishing the new parents all the best as they settle into life as a family of three.

Best wishes are also going out to Michayla Teevens and Shawn Walters, as they have welcomed a baby boy. They named him Mac, and he is a grandson for Barry and Heather Teevens, and a great-grandbaby for Eddie and Joan Desabrais. Congratulations to all.

Wasn’t that a party! Community Day was held on Saturday, Sept. 6, and it was a full day of fun for all in honour of Quyon’s 150th Anniversary. A big thank you to the Quyon Community Association for hosting the festivities, which included amazing local talent on-stage all day long, 9-hole mini putt, face painting, and crafts in the park for the kids, demonstrations by the Great Canadian Lumberjacks, and a return of the popular Drone Show that we were first treated to on Canada Day. The Quyon Lions Club served up a delicious roast beef dinner, which was enjoyed by many. A big shout out also to Chicken Fried, Lorne Brady & Friends, Barry Teevens & Friends, Southpaw, Amber Prud’homme, Gail Gavan, and Valley Mountain, as they kept the toes tapping all afternoon and into the evening. Another huge highlight of the day was the Wall of Wonderful, with an amazing array of prizes donated by local businesses. It was a truly fantastic celebration for Quyon’s Sesquicentennial Year.

Meanwhile over at the ball diamonds, the Quyon Sports and Rec 3-pitch tournament was on, and it was so great to see the action taking place over there as well. The big winners of the day were Townline Cattle. Having the ball tournament on at the same time just added to the celebratory atmosphere in town. Kudos to the QSR and all who volunteered to help with umping and scorekeeping throughout the day.

Belated birthday wishes are going out to Penelope Nugent, as she turned one on Sept. 3. Our family is wishing my brother, Luke Young, a very happy 40th birthday on Sept. 10. We are looking forward to celebrating this weekend! Birthday wishes are going out to Donna Kennedy on the 11th, and to Cassandra McKay on the 14th. Happy days to all celebrating this week.

It is great to see the work that has been on-going at Depanneur Marcotte for the past month has been completed, with new gas tanks installed and new paving all around. It looks fantastic.

Congratulations to Kim and Gail Boucher on opening the new addition to their business, Plaza 305 Florist. Located in Shawville right next to their clothing store, Boutique Bronson, they are now open to take your orders for beautiful floral arrangements. Wishing Kim and Gail all the best with this new endeavour.

The Quyon Lions Club will be hosting their annual ATV Poker Run on Sept. 20. The day begins at the Quyon Legion at 10 a.m., and will feature stops at the Shawville Arena, Scooter’s Bar & Grill, and the Campbell’s Bay Legion, before returning to the Legion for a pulled pork supper. To register, contact Paul at 819-210-1717.

Mark your calendars for Oct. 25, as the Quyon Lions will be hosting this year’s Car Rally. More info will be coming soon.
