It was with heavy hearts that we learned of the sudden passing of John Gibeault on July 31. “Big John”, as he was known around Quyon, was one the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. He always greeted you with a smile and a friendly hello. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Debbie, daughter Louann and her family, and all of John’s loved ones. He will be dearly missed in this community.
I enjoyed my past week of summer holidays with a “staycation”. My week off included celebrating my birthday with my family; going to Hotel Pontiac at Fort William for Trivia night with a group of friends; shopping and lunch in Renfrew with my mom, sister, and aunt; swimming with my niece and nephew; trips for pedicures and Dairy Queen; dancing at Gavan’s on Saturday night with The Young Bucks on stage; and just getting some odd jobs around the house done. It was a nice relaxing week, which I soaked up and enjoyed.
This past weekend, the Egan Mill hosted “Family Weekend” for the community. They had a bouncy castle on site in the park for children to enjoy, while families stopped in for ice cream. It was a busy spot all weekend long, and enjoyed by many.
Birthday wishes are going out to Kaylee and Jessica Hamilton, celebrating on Aug. 6, to Janice Wallace on the 7th, and to Marlee-Jo Harrison on the 8th. Happy Birthday to Liam Dowe on Aug. 9, to Ariella Albert and Linda Bernier on the 11th, and to Meghan MacKechnie on the 12th. Happy days to all marking special occasions this week.
The Quyon Pastoral Charge is excited to be hosting our “Blooms, Buildings, and Blocks Tour” this Saturday, Aug. 9. This fundraiser is in honour of Quyon’s 150th Anniversary, as well as the United Church of Canada’s 100th Anniversary. The self-guided tour will take you to the gardens of Elwyn Lang and Heather Barr and Eric and Katharine Fletcher, the historical sites of The Mohr House and the Egan Mill, as well as a quilt show and dessert served at Quyon United Church. The quilt show will feature many amazing quilts, including one that was made by women of the community in honour of Quyon’s Centennial celebrations 50 years ago. You don’t want to miss seeing this unique piece of Quyon history. Tickets are available in advance by contacting Elizabeth Young at 819-458-2677, or at Quyon United Church the day of the tour. We look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.
