Congratulations to Tessa (Young) and Chris Romain on the arrival of their first child. They welcomed a baby girl on June 29, and her name is Emmie Pearl. She is absolutely adorable, and I hear the new mom and dad are settling in well with their sweet little bundle. Our whole family is so happy for them.
Hats off to the Quyon Community Association for an amazing Canada Day party last Monday evening. The parade was wonderful, with many local businesses, organizations, and individuals donning their red and white to take part. Highlights were the stilt walkers and the pipe band, both which led off the parade in style. The parade was followed by the flag raising ceremony down by the Quyon Ferry, where our MNA André Fortin welcomed the crowd and wished all a Happy Canada Day. Afterwards in the park, the clown entertained the children by making balloon animals, while Stacy Johnston and Maddy Belland painted faces and Connie Clarke-Sloan organized a rock painting activity. The painted rocks helped to create “Essie” (SC), the Sesquicentennial Caterpillar, which will hopefully be on display in the park for years to come, to mark this special occasion in our village. DJ Dave Scully was also on hand to play music, adding to the party atmosphere. At dusk, a terrific show took place, as the very first drone show in the Pontiac lit up the sky in celebration of Quyon’s 150th. Immediately following was an incredible fireworks display that drew huge cheers from the massive crowd gathered. It was absolutely amazing.
The QCA are extremely grateful to the community for supporting their fundraising endeavours throughout the year, as it is through the donations they receive from their supporters that they are able to put on these fantastic events. This year’s celebrations were powered 100% by community donations, without any grants or government funding provided. In turn, our community is thankful to the QCA for all of their hard work in fundraising and organizing. We are so proud to live in this little town with big spirit.
The community fun carried on into this weekend, with the Quyon Tractor & Truck Pull held on Saturday at the fairgrounds. There was a huge crowd on hand to watch in the hot sun, and they were well entertained by an exciting pulling competition. Dwayne Newans was the winner of the Wendy Desabrais Memorial WWTTP plaque, and Jason Sparling took home the award for Single Engine Modified Tractors. The cooler of booze was won by Shawn Wyler, and as of the writing of this column, the winner of the 50/50 had yet to claim their $3,163.00 prize. Make sure to check your tickets, you can find the winning ticket number on the Quyon Tractor & Truck Pull Facebook page. The day was capped off with The Young Bucks taking the stage and entertaining throughout the evening. A big shout out to the QTTP committee for yet another amazing event.
Congratulations to Joshua Greenshields and Destiny Murphy, as they were married on Saturday, July 5 at Starborn Farm in Bristol. It was certainly a beautiful day for a wedding, as they were surrounded by their families and friends at such a gorgeous venue. Wishing the happy couple all the best as they begin this next chapter as Mr. & Mrs.
A lovely garden party was held on Sunday, July 6 at the Draper Farm in honour of Anita Draper’s 90th birthday. Many friends, neighbours, and family members gathered to celebrate with Anita. A delicious luncheon was served, and Rolly Bernier and friends were there to play music as well. Wishing Anita all the best on this milestone occasion.
