Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Donald McKenny, as he passed away last week. Thoughts and prayers are with his wife Maureen, children Michael, Harold, and Sarah, and all of his loved ones at this sad time. May your memories bring you comfort in the days and weeks ahead.

There was a great deal of excitement in the village last weekend, with several big events going on. On both Friday and Sunday, the Egan Mill celebrated its grand opening. The Mill was a buzz of activity on Friday, as several local dignitaries were on-hand for the festivities, with our MNA Andre Fortin, MP Sophie Chatel, and Mayor Roger Larose among them. Philip Holmes led the singing of O Canada and a re-enactment of John Egan’s duel took place to mark the special occasion. Throughout the day, tours of the Mill took place, and the first 100 visitors received a bag of flour for free. Then on Sunday, bouncy houses were out for children to enjoy, as well as a pig roast that with a rub made of local products was held for all to enjoy. The ice cream stand, market, and river-side park are now open for all to enjoy, with more to come. Congratulations to the owners Isabelle and Marc. We are so fortunate to have this gem open again in our community.

The Pontiac Country Fest kicked off Thursday evening with a great turnout for Bingo at the Community Centre, followed by a weekend filled with wonderful musical entertainment and horse shoes enjoyed by many. It was terrific to see so many camper trailers on site, and a big crowd out to enjoy the festival. Hats off to the Municipality of Pontiac for all their hard work in organizing and hosting this event.

Gavan’s Hotel joined in on the Canada Day weekend fun, featuring a poutine special throughout the weekend, and they had The Uninvited Guests on-stage Saturday night for an evening of pure Canadian rock music for all to enjoy. On Sunday, they had a tasting of Coronation Hall cider and music from DJ Dave. So much fun in one weekend, it’s fantastic to see.

Birthday wishes are going out to Daniel Dowe on July 3, to Ian Hudson on the 5th, and to Alvin Johnston on the 6th. Happy 90th birthday to Anita Draper, as she celebrates on July 6. We also have birthday wishes going out to Cooper Baker on the 7th, and to Nova-Mae McCann and Paul Lang on the 8th. Best wishes to all celebrating special occasions this week.

Quyon will be hosting another big event this coming weekend, as the annual Tractor & Truck Pull will be held at the fairgrounds on Saturday July 5. Fingers are crossed for great weather, as the best pullers in the area will be descending on Quyon that day hoping to bring some great action to the track. There will be food vendors and bouncy castles on site, and The Young Bucks will be hitting the stage in the evening to entertain the crowd. It is always a great event, and I am looking forward to it.

The Quyon Pastoral Charge will be hosting “Blooms, Buildings, and Blocks: A Church Fundraiser Tour” on Saturday August 9th to celebrate Quyon’s 150th Anniversary, as well as the United Church of Canada’s 100th Anniversary. The tour will feature the gardens of Elwyn Lang & Heather Barr and Eric & Katharine Fletcher, historical sites The Egan Mill and The Mohr House, as well as a quilt show and dessert served at Quyon United Church. Tickets are now available, with several church members having them to sell or by contacting Elizabeth Young at 819-458-2677.
