On Sunday morning, the Quyon Pastoral Charge celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada with a joy-filled church service led by Pastor Patricia Power at Wesley United Church. Rolly Bernier played some of the congregation’s favourite hymns on guitar, and a slideshow of memories from over the years was shown during the service, while some historical facts were also shared. We all enjoyed cake, coffee and fellowship afterwards.
I hope all of the dads had a fantastic Father’s Day on Sunday. It was perfect weather for being outdoors, celebrating with family. My brother and his kids joined us for a barbeque at my mom’s on Sunday evening, and then we had an ice cream treat at the Egan Mill ice cream stand after dinner. It was a lovely day.
Happy birthday to Molly Dowe and Harrison Greer on June 19, and to Noah Draper on the 20th. Big birthday wishes are going out to my niece Neve Young, as she turns 13 on June 21, and to my cousin Ryla Platt, celebrating on the same day.
Happy birthday to Rory Armitage and Randy Labadie, both also on the 21st. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
The anticipation is building in Quyon as there are some big events coming up in the next few weeks. The Municipality of Pontiac will be holding their annual Pontiac Country Festival on the last weekend of June at the Quyon Fairgrounds, with live music, horse shows, local vendors, and much more.
On Monday, June 30, the Quyon Community Association will be hosting the Canada Day Celebrations, with an amazing parade and fireworks, and this year they will also be having a drone show. There will be activities for children in the park as well.
The Quyon Tractor & Truck Pull Committee is gearing up for their big day on July 5, with the pulls starting at 1 p.m., followed by music by The Young Bucks at 8 p.m.. There will be food vendors and bouncy houses on site, and it’s always a great day of fun for the whole family. It promises to be an exciting couple of weeks in our town.
The school year is coming to a close for our local students, with celebrations and graduation parties happening this week. Congratulations to all of the graduates, as they are closing this chapter and looking forward to their futures shining brightly ahead. Wishing all of the students and staff of our schools a fabulous summer.
