I hope all of the mothers and mothering figures out there enjoyed a beautiful Mother’s Day this past weekend. The weather was gorgeous, and we had a great time celebrating my mom and my sister with dinner at my place on Saturday. On Sunday, we enjoyed a delicious brunch at Gavan’s Hotel, and my mom especially liked the quiche special they served for the occasion. It was delicious.
Last Friday evening, the Pontiac Arena Fund Committee hosted a Men’s Night, and I hear the Shawville arena was absolutely packed for the event. Guest speakers were Brett Nugent and Todd Nicholson, and there was also an auction with an amazing lineup of items and packages to bid on. What a successful night, and an incredible way to kick-start fundraising for the upgrades and repairs the Shawville Arena requires. Kudos to the organizing committee, and to all of the individuals and local businesses that supported it. The Arena is an important part of our greater community, and it’s terrific to see so many folks supporting the cause to keep it running for the next generations.
Birthday wishes are going out to Rori Richardson on May 14, and to Charlotte Nugent on the 16th. Happy birthday also to Gracynn Prest, celebrating on the 18th. Best wishes to all marking special occasions this week.
Onslow Elementary School will be hosting a Spring Fair coming up on May 29, with fun for the whole family including a Quyon Lions Club BBQ, Shawville 4H, Yardguy Games, and much more. In the weeks leading up to the event, they are also holding an Online Auction to raise money, with many great items donated by local artisans and vendors, as well as art created by Onslow students. The Quyon Legion has a few fun events coming up. They are bringing back the popular Barbotte Supper on May 22, which is always a huge hit. The Legion will also be celebrating Quyon’s 150th Anniversary with a BBQ Party on May 31, with afternoon entertainment by Reg & Shag, supper by Smokin Boys & Hot Grills, and evening music provided by Chicken Fried. Mark your calendars, it sounds like it will be an awesome day.
t’s hard to believe the May long weekend is already upon us. It feels very early this year. Looking forward to some extra time to get some yard work done, and hopefully a little time to relax on the deck. Wishing you all a great Victoria Day long weekend.
