I had a great time this past weekend celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with family and friends. Quyon’s festivities were held on June 30, with a wonderful parade and flag raising ceremony in the evening, where our MNA André Fortin addressed the crowd and Natasha Curley led the singing of “O Canada.” The children were entertained by a clown in the park afterwards which was sponsored by the Quyon Lions and Lionettes. There was also a great selection of backyard games to play that were provided by Derek Hickey. Deejay David Scully kept the music going all evening as well.
At dusk a fabulous fireworks display was set off by the Quyon River drawing oohs and aahs from the large crowd gathered.

Considering the weather had been a concern only a few hours before the festivities began it was so nice that the skies cleared and the sun came out just in time. It turned into a beautiful evening. A big thank you goes out to the Canada Day Committee for putting on yet another fantastic event for the community.
Just down the road the Quyon Legion was also throwing a party. They served up burgers and hot dogs at their barbeque and had Deejay Maestro Joe on hand to keep the crowd dancing all night. Everyone had a great time.
The Quyon Flyers were in action Friday evening in their annual Canada Day fastball game against West Carleton Electric. The hometown team lost 7-1 with the final inning wrapping up just as the fireworks were starting.
On Saturday, we headed up to Shawville to take in some of their Canada Day festivities, including the parade, which my niece and nephew went in with their Grandpa Provost in his classic car. I also watched some of the celebrations on Parliament Hill on TV including the amazing fireworks display. It was certainly a special occasion to remember. I hope everyone had a great time celebrating Canada Day.
Local country music fans also gathered in Quyon this past weekend for the annual Country JamFest. Campers arrived throughout the week, parking their trailers at the fairgrounds in anticipation of the big event, not letting the wet conditions and muddy grounds stop them from enjoying JamFest. There was a great line-up of entertainment throughout the weekend and it was once again a great success.
We have wishes going out to Allysha Provost who celebrates her 21st birthday today. Belated birthday wishes to Ray Johnston, as he celebrated on July 1 and happy birthday to Alvin and Calvin Johnston celebrating on July 6. I’d also like to wish Everett Hamilton a happy birthday on July 9. Belated anniversary wishes are extended to Paul and Melanie Lang as they celebrated on June 26 and we also have birthday wishes going out to Paul as his birthday is on July 8. Happy days to everyone celebrating this week.
Our community was very sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Grant Rogers last week. As the local veterinarian for many years, he was very well liked and respected. Thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.
