Congratulations to Amanda Smith and Ryan Tracy, who were married on Saturday June 9th at Starborn Farms in Bristol. The happy couple exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony and they celebrated long into the evening with their family and friends. Wishing Amanda and Ryan all the best as they begin their journey together as husband and wife.
On Saturday, my sister Kara and I, along with help from our mom and aunt Brenda Young, hosted a bridal shower in honour of Jenna Rainey at Quyon United Church. Jenna will be marrying our cousin Kenny Fleck in August. There was a great gathering of family and friends there to shower Jenna with gifts and good wishes, enjoying a luncheon, games, and prizes. We were so happy to finally meet Jenna and cannot wait until she and Kenny tie the knot.
On Sunday June 10th, the Quyon Lionettes hosted the Duck Race draw at the soccer fields in Quyon. Due to high waters and unsafe riverbanks, they were unable to actually put the ducks in the water, so they did a draw instead. The big winner of the “lucky duck” was Theresa Provost-Demell, who took home the grand prize of $1000. Second place and winner of $500 was Heather Desabrais. In third place taking home $250 was Meghan Morris. Congratulations to the winners and kudos to the Lionettes for organizing this much-loved community fundraiser.

The McCann family hosted a yard sale over the weekend. The kids were also selling cupcakes and lemonade with proceeds going to their school, École de la Vallée-des-Voyageur, Immeuble Ste-Marie. I know we made the trip across the street several times for goodies, I hope their sale was very successful!
Congratulations to Christopher and Sophie Tracey and big brother Novak on the arrival of their new baby boy on June 5th. Malek Lawrence was born at the Maison de Naissance with the help of a mid-wife, and both mom and baby are doing well. Malek is a new grandson for Grace and Lawrence Tracey. Best wishes to the whole family.
Deepest condolences to Ian and Sarah (McKenny) Dagenais and family on the loss of Ian’s father, Ray Dagenais, on June 7th. Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.
We are also thinking of the McCann family, as Jean McCann passed away on June 10th. Our prayers are with Jean’s family as they grieve this loss.
Happy Birthday to Molly Dowe, as she celebrates on June 19th. Happy days to everyone celebrating special occasions this week.
Last week, both the men’s and women’s Quyon Flyers teams were in action at home. On Wednesday night, the ladies played to a great crowd, and they won their game. The men took the field on Thursday night and beat the Ottawa Valley A’s 5-0. It’s great to see both of the hometown fastball teams doing so well in their seasons so far.
I’d like to give a little shout-out to all involved in beautifying our town this spring. The flowers are looking lovely. Several weeks ago, our councilor Sue McKay joined students from Onslow School and other Municipality of Pontiac employees in planting the flowers around town. Donna Kennedy planted the flowers at the Home of Gail Gavan sign at the highway with help from Anne Clarke. All of the flowers were generously donated by Kelly Wilkinson of Kelly’s Green Thumb. Big thanks to everyone for making our little town look so good!
Wishing all of the wonderful dads out there a great day on Sunday. Happy Father’s Day!
