We spent this past weekend at the Shawville Arena as the Pontiac Provincial Tournament was on for the Atom and Peewee levels. We had a great time cheering on my nephew Caden Provost who was playing in the Peewee A division with his team, the Aylmer Vikings. They came up short in the A Final against the other team from Aylmer but they played hard and we were very proud of them.
We also had fun watching friends and family members who were playing for Pontiac Lions teams. Special congratulations to the Peewee C team as they were the home town champs in their division. Kudos to all of the organizers and volunteers for their hard work over the past two weekends in hosting these terrific tournaments.
Belated birthday wishes are going out to Lisa Nugent, as she turned the big 50 on Jan. 26. Lisa had a wonderful time celebrating her milestone birthday over the weekend as her family and friends threw her a surprise party.
I’d like to wish a very happy birthday to my aunt Mona MacKechnie as she celebrates on Feb. 1. We also have birthday wishes going out to Casey McCann on Feb. 5 and to Madyson Belland on Feb. 6. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of Rosaleen Dickson on her recent passing. While I did not know Mrs. Dickson personally, she was a formidable woman with a remarkable list of accomplishments to her name including her many years of dedication to this newspaper. She leaves an incredible legacy and will remain a bright light of inspiration.
A reminder that Ski Pontiac is hosting a moonlit ski/snowshoe evening this coming Saturday, at Pine Lodge. Snowshoeing has become my favourite winter activity and the trails around Pine Lodge are really beautiful. I am hoping to round up some friends to enjoy this event. Here’s hoping for good weather and more snow.
