I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing Labour Day long weekend. Like many of you I certainly missed Shawville Fair, however I made sure to be grateful for the extra rest and had a good time with family. I also enjoyed seeing posts on Facebook of how folks were . . .
bringing the fair magic to their weekends despite not having the actual event to go to. A year will pass quickly and let’s hope we are all back there celebrating together next Labour Day weekend.
Last Monday evening was the final night of T-ball in Quyon for the three to six year olds. A big thank you to Coach Cecile Dumont and her helpers for organizing this for the kids. I was amazed to see how much they learned over the course of six weeks. I know the little ones had a great time playing while the fans had a lot of fun watching them!
Several more of my favourite annual events have fallen victim to the pandemic. The Quyon Lionettes Car Rally has been cancelled for this year, as has the Onslow School Christmas Craft Show. It saddens me to see all we are missing due to COVID-19 and yet I continue to hope that better days are ahead and we will have these events back for next year.
I was sorry to hear of the passing of Ted Metcalfe last week. He was an umpire who was a very familiar face at the ball field in Quyon over the years, umping many Quyon Flyers games both here and around the Ottawa area and the Valley. Truthfully, I didn’t even know his last name until I learned of his passing; he was simply “Teddy” to us. He was a great guy, and I know he will be missed.
Big birthday wishes are going out to Raymie Duquette who is turning two today, and to Hayden Hobbs as he celebrates his sixth birthday today. I’d like to send birthday wishes out to my brother Luke Young on Sept. 10 and to my cousin Donna Kennedy on Sept. 11. Happy birthday also to Cassandra McKay who is celebrating on Sept. 14. Best wishes to everyone celebrating this week.
