The Shawville Recreation Association saw a new shopping event take place on Saturday, when a variety of vendors filled the hall for a chance to show off their wares.
Organized by Britney Leblanc, the first Hello Summer Vendor Sale saw around 40 merchants and was set-up with some specific goals in mind.
“It’s the first year and it’s all spur of the moment,” said Leblanc. “The set-up was really important. All vendors had to be comfortable, with plenty of room in-between booths.”
Leblanc said she’s worked with different craft shows in the past, finding that some vendors would receive better locations in a room than others, amongst other unfair set-ups. With the Shawville R.A. hall, she made sure all vendors had an equal opportunity to be seen by customers, with a natural flow to entice customers into walking through all the stalls.
“It wasn’t even 48 hours,” said Leblanc, of how quickly the spots filled. “I think it’s the location, it’s a great spot.”
While Leblanc hosted her own booth, Funky Leggingz, selling a variety of the popular stretchy pants with many different designs adorning them, the room also played host to local shoe and clothing retailers, as well as custom signs, jewellery, home décor, fragrances and much more.
As well, she arranged for a number of donation opportunities to coincide with the event. Selling plastic flowers, the money raised would be donated to the Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School to assist with their end-of-year events.
Leblanc also made sure to feature the Shawville Hospital Auxiliary at the show, who were collecting donations for their cause. With Cathy McMunn, Chrissy Draper and Bea Hoopfer running that table, donations were warmly accepted. Plus, the event’s raffle draw helped support their efforts.
