Hockey players from both sides of the Ottawa Valley and as far as Montreal gathered in Shawville for the 26th annual Flying Elbows tournament, which took place over four days and culminated Saturday night when the finals in the A and B divisions were played.

Pontiac Thunder took home the James Smith Memorial trophy in the A division with a 5-2 win over the Breckinridge Red Wings. In the B division, Greystone Farm hoisted the Bryan Murray Memorial trophy with a 7-2 win over Farmers Mob.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without the support of the community. It’s pretty good to see,” said William Armitage, who has been organizing the tournament for the last eight years.

He said the event was used to raise money for much needed arena repairs.

“We’re hoping to support the Pontiac Arena Fund. We want to help with the Zamboni and where anything is needed,” he said.

“If we don’t have people come out to help, some of the goals that we’re striving for or things that we need won’t be achieved.”
