The Pontiac Lions didn’t need a duck race to put on an exceptional Easter bash at the Campbell’s Bay RA on Saturday, complete with an Easter egg hunt and BBQ.
The annual event usually sees hundreds of rubber ducks race down Lunam’s creek, but things didn’t go quite according to plan this year as the creek was still frozen over. Instead, kids got their Easter fun hunting for eggs hidden throughout the Campbell’s Bay ball field.
“Because of the weather, we didn’t have our duck race at the creek, but we’re at the ballpark and every kid has to bring back different coloured eggs. Five eggs to get their chips and their goodie bag,” said Lions president Kim Lesage.
Kids had the additional task of finding the single golden egg hidden somewhere in the ball field. Luc and Ann St-Jean managed to locate the shiny sphere, exchanging it for a Kinder toy.
Those who weren’t chasing eggs noshed on the barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by Lions volunteers. Those who wanted a reprieve from the rain took shelter inside the Campbell’s Bay RA hall.
At the end of the event, attendees gathered around to hear which three ducks had been drawn to receive three cash prizes. Levi Frost walked away with the grand prize of $1,000, Eric Bertrand took home the $500 prize, and Lisa Dubeau snagged the final $300 prize.
Treasurer Lindsay Frost said on Monday that the club had not done a final tally of the proceeds from the event.
Lesage said the event was a success.
“We’re really happy, we have over 50 kids that are here, and a lot of parents. Everybody’s happy, everybody’s eating, I think it’s a really good turnout even despite the weather,” she said.
