Senior volleyball players from across the Pontiac and beyond made the journey to Mansfield on Dec. 10 to compete in the final day of Pontiac Cup games that would see only two teams crowned champions.
The annual volleyball tournament, a longstanding Pontiac tradition, sees girls and boys teams from Pontiac High School (PHS), École secondaire Sieur-de-Coulonge (ESSC), and Dr. Wilbert Keon School (DWKS) compete against each other, as well as Maniwaki and Gracefield teams.
This year, the boys’ final saw DWKS play Gracefield after beating out Maniwaki in the semi-final. The team lost the first set, won the second, and lost the third by only a few points.
In an equally close game, the girls’ final saw ESSC face off against Maniwaki after the Mansfield team beat PHS in the semi-final. The girls also lost the first set, won the second, and then lost the third by only two points.
Noemi Boisvert, captain of the girls’ team, said she expected them to make it to the finals, and was proud.
“We practice all the time, we’re strong, we encourage each other, I was expecting this.”
