An Otter Lake woman’s video of her daughter receiving a new car has gotten over 2 million plays on TikTok.

When Jessica Dubeau’s parents, Kathy Racine and Gerard Dubeau bought her daughter Payton a new car, she saw an opportunity to make a feel-good video, which has now gone viral.

“The whole car thing happened, my parents planned that for her, and then I just always had TikTok, so I’m like, ‘I’ll post it,’” Jessica said.

The video starts off showing Dubeau gifting Racine a new car, but then comes the plot twist: Racine suddenly turns to give the keys to Payton, who is overcome with emotion.

“I was really happy for my grandma, and then she handed me the keys and I was in a lot of disbelief,” said Payton, who spent her summer working at the municipal dump to save up for a new car.

Jessica said she never thought the video would get so much visibility.

Within a few hours, the video was at 8,000 plays and within a few days was at 1 million. To date, there are just shy of 9,000 comments, and Jessica said she had read almost all of them. She said the comments have been so positive toward Payton’s wholesome reaction to what she first thought was her grandmother getting a new car.

“All the comments are targeted towards my daughter and how sweet she is, and how grateful, and [ . . .] it feels good for me because a lot of people say she was raised right, and ‘Way to go mom!’”

Jessica noted a lot of people commented saying the wholesome content was a welcome sight in a world sometimes full of hate and conflict.

“I think what resonated a lot with people was that [ . . . ] there’s a lot going on in our world right now that’s very negative, and they said they needed this video.”

Payton, who is a student at Pontiac High School, wants to take her car on a road trip to Florida sometime in the near future, where she plans to explore the state’s famous beaches and, of course, visit Walt Disney World.

“It’s going to be the first thing I do,” she said.
