I think of myself as very blessed. One of the reasons? I have great neighbors all around me. They are the kind of people who help when there is a need, they’re friendly and just nice to be around. But I remember reading about a man who asked, “Who is my neighbour?” And I remember the reply Jesus gave him. He told him the story of the good Samaritan. Basically, He said that anyone who you come across, who is in need, and, you have the ability to help, they are your neighbour. That stretches the meaning far beyond my street.
At this time of the year, there are many needs. Winter has set in. Some people need food. Thankfully there is a food bank that will supply that need if I share the extra I have. But the meaning is greater than money. A word of kindness can help, for those who find themselves lonely or sad. Christmas can have that effect. And even more, when we share the hope that comes from that babe in the manger, real change is possible. He came to set things right, should we take the time to look to Him!
