The MRC Pontiac has announced that it has appointed a new director general.
Bernard Roy, who has served as assistant director since May 2016, will officially take over the directorship on July 1.
Roy replaces Gabriel Lance, who served as the director general since the start of 2016.
“Over the past year, Bernard has become immersed in all major files and demonstrated great management qualities,” Lance said in a press release.
With retirement looming, Lance wanted to scale back his workload before the time comes for him to kick his feet up and enjoy the next chapter in his life.
“It’s not for tomorrow morning,” Lance said. “But by taking over my former position as assistant director and decreasing my workload, I am taking the first steps towards retirement.”
MRC Warden Raymond Durocher had high praise for the work that Lance has done.
“He accepted [wearing] multiple hats and put in long hours to advance several major projects and sustain operations for more than a year,” Durocher said.
Not only did Durocher have praise for Lance’s willingness to take on an increased workload, but he lauded the former director general’s commitment to the region.
“This is a guy who carries the Pontiac in his heart,” Durocher said.
Durocher also said that he was confident Lance’s replacement will fill the large shoes he has waiting for him.
“We now have in Bernard Roy a proven candidate who has chosen our region and will serve the MRC well for years to come,” Durocher said.
