The MRC Pontiac council of mayors wants to create a citizens committee so they can hear their community’s concerns directly from residents.
“What we’re trying to do is ignite the local voice,” said Warden Jane Toller.
Members of the public who wish to take part in the citizen committee will need to get in touch with the MRC and ask to be put on the list.
Toller said that mayors could volunteer to interview interested constituents to evaluate the best candidates for the job.
The goal is to have seven to ten people to sit on the committee. Ideally, successful candidates will have relevant experience in their background.
For example, a committee on youth in the Pontiac would ideally have representatives from the local school boards as well as the local CEGEP.
Another area Toller identified was a committee on solid waste management. She said that many residents have personal experience that would make them ideal candidates for this type of committee.
