Campbell’s Polaris in Shawville was once again the victim of two vehicle thefts on the night of Sept. 21, bringing the business to a total of six vehicles stolen in a span of less than two months.
Owner Steve Gilpin said security camera footage from that night shows four individuals climb over the back fence of the vehicle enclosure and spend over an hour inside, then proceed to make off with two side-by-sides – a white Polaris RZR 2022 and an orange 2015 RZR XP 1000.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier said the police received a call the morning of Sept. 22 for a break and enter. Police went to the scene, and are currently investigating.
In July, thieves stole four vehicles in two separate incidents on the same night, that time exiting via the back fence of the vehicle enclosure.
“We’re still out over $150,000 from the last time,” said Gilpin of the incident. At that time, the SQ was able to track down one of the vehicles using its built-in GPS, locating it in a remote area two hours north of Shawville. Campbell’s Polaris recovered that vehicle, but still hasn’t recovered the other three.
Tessier said the three vehicles still missing from before have still not been found, that no arrests have been made, and that police are working to determine if the two incidents are related. He said the investigation is under way as they are contacting other law enforcement agencies to see if similar incidents have occurred elsewhere in the Outaouais.
“There’s a lot of groundwork to cover if any business or houses have cameras on the street, or other types of information that we’re going to get with our other police partners if they have similar incidents happening in their area,” he said.
