A crowd of spectators lined the Front Street bridge in Campbell’s Bay on Saturday afternoon, anxiously watching a group of rubber ducks bob their way down a stream, towards the duck race finish line.

Five hundred ducks were purchased to enter in the competition – a Pontiac Lions Club fundraiser hosted annually around Easter.

Barry Doyle and Scott Tubman were waiting to catch the first three ducks to make it down the stream to the finish line, which would then be awarded the top three prizes.

In first place was duck number 139, purchased by Michelin Carol, who took home the grand prize of $500. Jessica Nilsson came second with duck number 159 and a $200 prize, and Pat Mahoney finished third with duck number 355 and a prize of $100.

Lions president Terry Frost explained the club shares the bright pink, blue and purple ducks with Chapeau, which holds its duck race later in the summer.

The event also featured an Easter egg hunt with over 70 kids participating, according to Debbie Frost. Debbie explained that they hid plastic eggs along the trail near the stream and the kids got to trade them for an Easter goodie bag. There was also one golden egg which awarded one lucky kid with a grand prize.

“It was a really good turnout, it’s always a good turnout with the kids,” Debbie said. “I’m glad the weather held off.”
