The Pontiac Lions Bantam B team took on the Maniwaki Mustangs in a close game on Saturday, lat the Shawville Arena.
Maniwaki emerged victorious in the afternoon game, scoring 3 – 2, but the Lions did put up a fair fight, especially with half of the team playing above their age group.
“They came out aggressively at them from the beginning,” said Greg Hayes, head coach of the Lions. “Our goalie played with much more confidence.”
Hayes explained that his Bantam B team is comprised of four Peewee-aged players, including the goalie and three forwards. Despite this, the team is still putting in a great effort and sits about halfway in the standings.
Goal scorers for this game included Michael Findlay and Brayden Duval. Findlay got the first goal with an assist by Alex Mayhew, while Duval scored the second with an assist from Brycen Ireland.
“We’re always trying to improve our puck movement and forechecking,” said Hayes. “Our players are younger and not as big, so we always need to put more pressure and be more aggressive.”
Next up for the Bantam B team is a couple of games this coming weekend. On Saturday, Jan. 13, they’ll face off against the Hull Frontaliers and the Gatineau Patriotes, before playing the Collines Loups on Sunday.
