Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the recent article in THE EQUITY which emphasized my concern about sufficient dosage supply for our permanent residents. For most regions of Quebec, the dosage provided is based on . . .

the permanent population number. I have been assured by the CISSSO that everyone receiving a vaccination in Campbell’s Bay must now have proof of residency — an address, rather than simply a postal code. Anyone who received the first vaccination will certainly be receiving their second vaccination in Campbell’s Bay. I have also been reassured that we will have enough dosages of the vaccine. The government understands the reality of the Pontiac with our proximity to Ontario.

We first heard about COVID-19 thirteen months ago. The Pontiac was very fortunate to have very few cases for most of this time. Unfortunately, COVID- 19 has now touched 11 of our 18 municipalities. The number of positive cases in the MRC Pontiac has started to rise quickly. We now have young children who are testing positive.

This weekend, I received calls about groups of people who were together and many people arriving from other regions. There is a lock down in Ontario at the moment which means that travel between Quebec and Ontario should be for essential purposes only.

I had my vaccination last Saturday and I want to encourage everyone to make an appointment when your age group is called. If you have received your first vaccination, you still have to take all precautions. You are not immune to COVID-19. Even with the second vaccination the immunity goes to 90 per cent. Another regulation recently imposed by the Premier is to wear a mask outside if you are walking with a person that you do not live with.

We are all tired of these restrictions but I want to thank and encourage you to persevere and practice even stronger vigilance. We need to work together to cross the finish line and protect ourselves and our neighbours. Please keep the health of the Pontiac in your prayers. Thank you.
