MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC Aug. 9, 2017
A Holstein bull wandering around Breckinridge in the Municipality of Pontiac decided to make himself at home on a private property in the area on Aug. 9.
The owner of the property cared for the bull while its owners were tracked down.
Eventually, after seeing his animal making the rounds on social media, the bull’s owner contacted police and the two were reunited the next day.
The bull didn’t have to travel far to get himself into trouble, as the two properties are less than a kilometre apart.
The surprised owner of the property told police that she gave the animal shelter and food while the search for the owner was ongoing.
“The cow was better in her backyard than on the 148,” said MRC des Collines Police spokesperson Martin Fournel.
He said that the MRC des Collines Police are used to dealing with these types of calls. He pointed to run-ins with Vietnamese pigs, llamas and other cattle in recent memory.
“We’re covering more than 2,000 square kilometres,” Fournel said. “It’s one of the largest in Quebec.”
With such a large swath of land, and with so much agriculture in the region, Fournel said this kind of thing isn’t uncommon.
But the media reaction has surprised him. Fournel said that media outlets as far away as Montreal have been in touch trying to get details about the wayward bull.
