Last week THE EQUITY shared a special callout requesting you send in your stories about love, in whatever shape it’s taken in your life. This callout was inspired by the following love story, shared with us by longtime reader Lynette Harris (thank you Lynette). After reading her story, we wanted more.
Whether it’s your love for a person, a special place, a tradition, a song, or your favourite midnight snack, tell us how it started and why it is you love what or who you love.
Send your stories (400 words or less) to news@theequity.ca by Friday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. to have them published in our Feb. 18 issue of the paper. And if you have a good photo, send that along too.
Now here is Lynette’s love story.
I met my husband Denis Boucher at the Shawville Curling Club in 1981. I was not really ready for a new relationship after just ending a disastrous first marriage but we were immediately drawn to each other and soon became inseparable and married on July 4,1983.
We are a prime example of opposites attracting because he is French and I am English, he is Catholic and I am Protestant, he is a liberal and I am a conservative, he likes rock music and I like country, but I can honestly say that we have never had a fight.
If asked why our marriage works, I would say that we are on the same page when it comes to finances and we always laugh together every day. It doesn’t hurt that he can escape to his shack for a few hours most days too.
Since retiring I enjoy gardening, attending the Bryson Golden Age Club, spending time with grandchildren and I have written and published two books.
Denis likes to hunt and fish, he enjoys curling and golf, and he is attached to his chainsaw.
We both enjoy sitting together every evening watching Netflix. He likes an action series and I like a romance. We both had two children when we met and together now enjoy having nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
I want to wish my husband a happy Valentine’s Day and tell him once again that I will love him forever and ever. Amen.
