Bristol residents and guests be bopped and hopped their way into summer, with a community dance held at the Jack Graham Community Centre.
Saturday evening saw folks rock, bop and pop the night away, at the Bristol Community Association’s Summer Fling dance.
While attendance was a bit lower than expected, there proved plenty of room for guests to test out their new dancing shoes as the Al Visser Band played their 50s and 60s rock and pop hits.
Finding a large group of Beatles fans, the crowd was just as pleased to be there. As well, Bristol Community Association President Elaine Findlay said the band is always a hit at their events.
Findlay explained that the Al Visser Band is a favourite because of the diversity of music they play, providing tunes for all the local tastes.
She also said that their dances are popular events in the area as they’re a continued opportunity for locals to get together for an old-school event. Their dances are rounded out with light lunches served, as well as a cash bar on-site.
Adding to the fun of the evening was a selection of door prizes that were rounded up by the Bristol Community Association. Guests had the chance to take home a little something extra for their support of their local club, making for a sweet bonus on top of the dancing and drinks they enjoyed through the evening.
Findlay said that while their events are fairly quiet for the summer – as the Norway Bay crowd tends to organize plenty to keep everyone busy – guests can expect more dances starting up again in September. She highlighted their Halloween dance as a big one, not to be missed by any in the area.
