MUNICIPALITY OF PONTIAC March 7, 2018
Residents in the Municipality of Pontiac are being warned to be wary of a scam artist operating in the area who is impersonating a member of the local fire department.
The Municipality of Pontiac has received complaints from residents that a person was going door-to-door selling fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
The municipality does not send members of the fire department to go door-to-door to sell fire extinguishers. In fact, the municipality does not currently have a fire prevention officer.
If a resident is approached by someone claiming to be from the fire department, they are encouraged to ask the person for identification.
One of the biggest giveaways is the fact that the scam artist was not driving a fire department vehicle.
