Outstanding community members from Fort Coulonge and Mansfield were welcomed to an honourary dinner on Saturday night, celebrating their lives of giving back to their homes and neighbours.
The Dinner of the Builders took place at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fort Coulonge, where over 200 people packed the hall for an evening of music, food and friends.
“We’re celebrating people 65 and older, commemorating the community builders,” said event organizer Gaetan Viau.
Working as a free dinner for the Builders, guests reserve their spot by putting down a $10 deposit, which was then handed back to them upon presentation of their ticket. Guests were welcome to bring family, but that was at their own cost and not returned.
“It’s a night out for a family,” said Viau.
The dinner saw 12 volunteers working away in the kitchen, while another 20 served tables.
Viau said it was easier to serve everyone as many guests would require a helping hand, and this saved them the trouble.
Guests enjoyed the choice of turkey or roast beef dinners, with all the trimmings, plus a selection of soups, salads and desserts to round it all out.
Next up for the Builders is a pickerel supper on March 24, at the same building, as well as an appreciation dinner in May.
