Dear Editor,

My name is Jacob Tie Ten Quee. I am a father, a builder and a climber. Today I am writing about climate change, of which the mere idea scares me to the point that some days I wish I could pretend it wasn’t real.

The issue we are facing is often looked at as . . .

a problem that needs to be fixed to keep the planet healthy and while that may be true, it is my belief that with or without our interference the planet will be fine. It is ourselves that need to be kept safe and healthy and as the temperature of the planet rises that will be continuously harder and harder. This is why I would like to thank the government for introducing climate accountability legislation, which will help Canada to meet targets, hold government responsible and drive down climate pollution.

Canada has missed every greenhouse gas target it has set, this bill could put an end to broken promises.

According to the best available science the next decade will decide if we are on track to keep warming below 1.5 C. We must act quickly, reduce emissions and co-create a safe and resilient future

Jacob Tie Ten Quee

Duclos, Que.
