Art connoisseurs and beginners alike were invited to the Connexions Resource Centre satellite office in Shawville this past Thursday for an Art For Wellness workshop. An event designed for those 55 and over, the workshop was one in a series of weekly art clinics running every Thursday from March 9 to March 30.
A free of charge event series, attendees of all skill levels were welcomed into the Connexions office to explore different art concepts and socialize. Each week – under the direction of Connexions Resource Centre communications coordinator and creative workshop facilitator, Michèle Gagnon – the art concept being explored changes to allow for broader expression and self-discovery. Examples of creative pursuits covered throughout the workshop series include painting and collaging.
According to Gagnon, the purpose of the Art For Wellness series is to facilitate a setting for artistic expression while also providing a space for community members to connect.
“Art is a very powerful tool for expressing emotion, understanding ourselves and moving through things,” Gagnon explained. “It’s a great community builder and is accessible for those interested.”
Connexions Resource Centre is a non-profit organization whose stated mission is to, “serve and promote the health, well-being and vitality of the English-speaking population of the Outaouais,” according to the organization’s website.
