A Christmas craft show was held in Bryson on Saturday, featuring 20 vendors and benefitting the local Lions Club community efforts.
Organized by Lise McCorriston, a member of the Bryson Lions chapter, and held at the Bryson Lions Club, the annual craft show has raised a combined $3,000 since its inception three years ago.
“It’s held to help raise money for the Lions Club because they do help a lot of people out,” said McCorriston. “By raising money, we help them help others.”
The Lions Club has traditionally assisted the community in providing for the less fortunate, or holding communal suppers. One such dinner will be the Seniors’ Christmas Day on Dec. 10, where Lions will pick up seniors from their homes and bring them to the club for an evening of food, live music and a visit from Santa.
“The ladies will be picky on [which Lion] they want to have pick them up,” laughed Sheila Racine, a Lions member also assisting with the craft show. “They love to get all dolled up and come out for the evening.”
The evening is put on free-of-charge for the seniors, working as a way to help cure the early winter loneliness and make sure everyone gets to celebrate the holidays.
But that’s not all they’ll be fundraising for this year, as the club is in need of a few repairs.
“Right now, they’re trying to fix up the hall,” said McCorriston, saying the washrooms were the main focus.
New for the show this year was a bit of something that’s an excellent addition to any holiday occasion – Christmas music.
“We’ve added Christmas music this year,” said McCorriston, with a laugh. “It helps put everyone in the Christmas feeling, so that they’ll want to shop.”
