In the wee hours of New Year’s Day three men broke into the Lakeside Hotel in Portage du Fort with the hopes of getting their hands on some cold hard cash.
The assailants broke a window to gain entry to the building and proceeded directly to the cooler where the liquor, beer and pop are stored.
The cooler also houses the safe.

According to Lakeside manager Denise Geremian, the men didn’t take anything once they were inside.
Geremian said she thinks they were scared off by the alarm system.
“We have good security here,” she said, referring to the security cameras on site.
Since the men didn’t take anything, Geremian said she doesn’t think the men were simply looking to replenish their beer stock after a thirsty New Year’s Eve.
Although nothing was stolen, Geremian said it’s still frustrating to have to deal with something like this during the holidays.
“It’s just a hassle to get [the window] fixed,” she said.
