The Johnson Lake Property Owners Association hosted a beach party at Hitz Beach on Saturday as a part of the Thorne celebrations for Canada’s 150th birthday.
More than 20 children and their parents came out to enjoy a day of fun, sun and sand – along with some free goodies for the kids and adults alike.
There were potato sack races and tug of wars for those who wanted to flex a little bit of competitive muscle.
Several local businesses donated everything from gift cards to picnic equipment to knick knacks for the youngsters on hand.
Even the hotdogs and juice boxes were donated by local businesses, making for a fun and affordable time for everyone.
Many of those in attendance wore red and white attire in keeping with the theme of the party.
Many of the children – and some adults – were even treated to face painting by Lyzanne Cuddhil.
“I even got my face painted and so did some adults,” said local resident and beach party organizer Linda Drouin.
The beach party was originally held on July 1 in years past, but with the amount of events going on in the area on Canada Day, it made it tough to get a good attendance.
Canada Day has all kinds of events including a fireworks display and a boat parade.
“We hadn’t had anything to bring everybody together in one spot, because we really wouldn’t see each other if we’re in our boat or in our own cottage,” Drouin said.
This was the first event of its kind in six years in the area, and by the sounds of it, it was a success.
“Everybody that came had a great time,” Drouin said.
