The Jack Graham Community Centre saw its card players bringing more than their poker faces on Sunday, as the Bristol Community Association (BCA) continued their casual card games.
That’s because participants had the option to donate $2 or a non-perishable food item as an entry fee to the afternoon drop-in games, with all donations benefitting Bouffe Pontiac.
“The food bank needs more donations than just once a year,” explained Elaine Findlay, president of the BCA.
While donations tend to come in around the holidays, donations appear less frequently throughout the rest of the year. The BCA planned to donate both the money raised during the afternoon, as well as all of the food collected.
Meanwhile, guests to the community centre had the chance to enjoy plenty of home baking while they played their games. Members of the BCA dropped off all kinds of baking for guests to snack on as hands were dealt.
Folks had the option to play three different games – euchre, canasta or bridge – which are the usual for the BCA’s game days.
The group looks to put on regular events but admits that schedules are generally busier this time of year, between graduations and the start of wedding season.
Still, they’re looking to host a dance in late June and more drop-in cards days in the coming months, as it’s all great opportunities to get the community out together and socializing.
