An Ontario man is facing three charges under the criminal code, following an alleged violent incident with a weapon at Atkinson’s Bar on the evening of May 19.
Michael Trottier, 42, is accused of possessing a weapon for dangerous purpose, driving under the influence and criminal harassment.
“Rapidly, we were advised that the man was outside, was aggressive, possibly … armed,” said Sgt. Marc Tessier, a spokesperson for the Sûreté Du Québec. “When we arrived, the man was inside a vehicle.”
Tessier continued to say that the man was arrested and transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Soon after, he was taken back to the Campbell’s Bay police station and detained for the long weekend.
Police responded to the incident at the bar around 11 p.m. No information was available as to how long it took for the situation to be resolved.
“I know he was outside, he did [break] a window and when police arrived, he was in his vehicle,” said Tessier.
Trottier appeared in the Gatineau courthouse on May 22 and was released on recognizance.
Trottier is expected to return to the Campbell’s Bay courthouse on July 10.
