A celebration was held at the Coronation Hall in Bristol Sunday afternoon, marking the end of the Bristol Farmer’s Market and the beginning of the apple-picking season.
With a full harvest meal in the hall, live music by members of the Des Allen Band and various stalls set up on the front lawn, visitors were welcome to come join the final hurrah as summer weather gives way to autumn temperatures.
“We just wanted to have a little party and celebrate the end of the farmer’s market,” said Greg Graham, one of the owners of the hall. “We’ve hosted this for three or four years now.”
With a meal prepared by Café 349, using ingredients sourced from the vendors, those who scored themselves a seat were in for a treat. The meal began with a selection of seasoned meats, including alpaca and chorizo, before moving onto ground beef sliders, prepared in a masala seasoning and dressed in crispy kale and cilantro. From there, diners were presented with a chicken and apple curry soup, roasted sage and rosemary chicken, root vegetables and an Irish lamb stew.
Patrons had plenty to fill their bellies, but on top of this, a dessert of apple pie, tarts, and pumpkin mousse cups were also available.
Almost 100 people came out to the gathering, with roughly a quarter of those visitors attending the meal. Vendors onsite included Mayhew Family Farm, Netherleigh Farm, Willow Lane Alpaca, Les jardins du chene blanc, La Vallée des Rosiers, Andrew Simms Farm and Domaine du Pontiac Village.
Friday, Oct. 6 will be the last day for the market in Bristol this year.
