CAMPBELL’S BAY
Feb. 14, 2018
The Campbell’s Bay RA Hall echoed with laughter on Feb. 10 as attendees were treated to the comedy stylings of Colin O’Brien and Darryl Purvis.
More than 150 people put on an upside down frown for the annual event hosted every year around Valentine’s Day.
The event was a fundraiser for the Pontiac Lion’s Club. Organizer Terry Frost said the money raised goes right back into the community.
For instance, Frost said the Pontiac Lion’s Club recently entered a team in the Heart and Stroke Bonspiel this weekend and will donate some of the night’s proceeds.
Each performer did a 30-minute set for the audience.
O’Brien, a comedian from Ottawa, represented Ottawa at a “Just For Laughs” showcase; while Purvis brought his act all the way from Southern Ontario.
This year’s event was a bit of a departure from year’s past where the annual Valentine’s Day event featured a murder-mystery dinner.
“This year we thought we’d try to change things up,” Frost said. “[We thought] people were getting bored with it and it’s the complete opposite.”
“So hopefully next year we can do our murder mystery again,” Frost said.
After the comedy show wrapped up, it was time for people to switch from working out their abs to working their dancing muscles.
DJ Maestro Joe had the attendees cutting rug until the wee hours of the morning.
“It was quarter to three when I got home,” Frost said with a chuckle. “I thought I was going to be real smart and close the disco down at midnight and that didn’t work. People said ‘What? You’re not closing it now!’ So, we stayed open.”
“We’ve got our regulars, who are hardcore and are always the last to leave,” Frost said.
