It’s been a big year for the Anglican Parish of West Quebec.

Until last year, the parish included churches in Danford Lake, Radford and Shawville, chapels in Thorne Centre, Charteris, Greermount, Kazabazua and Wright, as well as several cemeteries where the parish holds annual memorial services.

Last fall, however, the parish decided to amalgamate with Christ Church Aylmer, St. Mary Magdalene Church in Chelsea, and the Church of the Good Shepherd in Wakefield. Now, all six churches form the Parish of the Holy Spirit.

Rev. Eric Morin, who has been the minister for churches in Shawville, Radford and Danford Lake for the past eight years, will serve his last Sunday with the parish on Mar. 15. In December he was appointed the Incumbent to the Parish of St. Thomas Stittsville, where he will begin on Mar 23.

In January it was announced that Dr. Sony Jabouin had been appointed an associate Incumbent of the newly amalgamated Parish of the Holy Spirit, effective Feb. 23. He will be one of three ministers covering the parish’s six churches.

Originally from Haiti, Jabouin was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 2003, and moved to Canada in 2008 to pursue graduate studies. In May 2025 he was received into the Anglican Church of Canada.

“Presently the licensed lay readers are leading the services twice a month when the priest is not here,” explained Jean Macnab, one of three people who became licensed lay readers with the parish last July. “It is anticipated we will have a priest three Sundays a month and a lay reader once a month once the schedule is finalized.”

Along with Macnab, Monica Dodson and Deborah Bergeron have also been licensed as lay readers.
