There was hardly a seat left in the gymnasium at Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School on Dec. 22, as students took part in their Christmas concert, the first since 2019 due to covid.

The production, titled “A Christmas to Believe In”, was narrated by three students, Bentley Lalonde, Brandi Dubeau and Griffin Lottes. The trio led spectators through a humorous at times rendition of the historical story of the birth of Jesus.

The story was acted out by almost two dozen students who played the parts of Mary, Joseph, the wisemen, shephards, angels and several others.

Throughout the enactment, two or three classes at a time would stand to sing a Christmas song that was related to that part of the story.

Each song was led by Bonnie Richardson, on guitar, who had worked for weeks rehearsing with the children. They were also accompanied by Greg MacIntosh on keyboard.

The production ran for a little over an hour and after the final scene the entire school joined together to sing I Believe in Christmas and Feliz Navidad.

Spectators were invited to join in, and many did as it was hard not to feel more in the Christmas spirit after such a performance.
