MRC des Collines Police are warning Pontiac residents to be careful who they give their information to over the phone.
The police have received several complaints in recent months that several citizens have been called by someone claiming to be from the Canada Revenue Agency.
During the phone calls, the supposed CRA agent informs the resident that if they don’t immediately pay the sums owed, the police will be called.
In a post on its Facebook page, the MRC des Collines Police say that the Canada Revenue Agency does not conduct phone calls to settle accounts.
Whatever you do, do not give the caller your credit card information.
If residents do receive a call like this, police ask that they remain calm and take down the caller’s phone number and report it to police.
Anyone who has been affected by the scam or who has received these types of calls is encouraged to call the anti-Fraud Centre of Canada at 1-888-495-8501.
